About Cluck & Road
An independent editorial site about the domestic chicken, and about the two arcade games that borrowed its most famous joke.
What we do
Cluck & Road publishes two kinds of thing. The first is writing about Gallus gallus domesticus: its cognition, its genetics, its breeds and the strange 3,500-year negotiation it has conducted with human beings. The second is coverage of Chicken Road and Chicken Road 2, a pair of free casual arcade games, including how they work and how to get better at them.
The two subjects sit together because both are consistently underestimated. Chickens are treated as stupid and they are not. A game about crossing a road is treated as trivial and, once you have tried to hold a twenty-lane streak together, it is not.
How we handle facts
Every claim on the site is traceable to published research on domestic fowl or to primary archaeological and historical sources. Where the evidence has moved, we follow it rather than repeating the familiar version. Our domestication date says roughly 1500 BC, for example, because the radiocarbon reassessment of early chicken bones pushed the older 8,000-year figure aside, even though that older number is still repeated almost everywhere.
Where scientists genuinely disagree, we say so instead of picking the more entertaining option. If you believe something here is wrong, please tell us and include a source. Corrections are made promptly and noted on the page.
How we cover the games
Chicken Road and Chicken Road 2 are free-to-play casual arcade games with no gambling mechanics of any kind. There is nothing to wager, nothing to deposit and no prize to win. Score multipliers, stars and streaks exist only to keep score and carry no monetary value.
We state this plainly because the phrase "multiplier" appears in a lot of very different products. Ours refers to a combo meter, in the same sense that a fighting game or a pinball table has one.

We are not owned by a publisher or a studio, and no coverage on this site is paid for or approved by a third party in advance.
Free to read
No paywall, no registration wall and no gated downloads. The site is supported by advertising, which never determines editorial content.
